I know, I know...NPR...but are we really to believe that there is exactly 4 "works" from the 80s and 90's...20% of the century...that are considered important? I wish these lists showed a little more forsight...expecially since the influence of bands like The Cure, Pearl Jam, The Beastie Boys, etc. are so previlant in society today...
Very true in that regard. Keep in mind it's strictly American though. The Beastie Boys or Run DMC should certainly be on the list somewhere. I just thought it was far more interesting than all those Rolling Stone lists that have come out in the past year or so. It doesn't pimp the 1960s so much and it's fun to see a turn-of-the century rag time up there next to Rapper's Delight. And so many of the songs are part of the American way of life or culture, beyond just musical influence. Warner Brothers cartoons and the West Side Story don't make many lists, especially ones that also include the Talking Heads and Velvet Underground.
